The New Xbox 360 250Gb

Monday, July 12th, 2010

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhmvalqJ8ts

The new Xbox 360 250gb console out of the box shiny case is striking – it’s more compact than the original of course and noticeably lighter but its the sheen of that plastic that really stands out. This is one sexy console.

The prominent grills on the side of the case give you a clear look at the fan system and cooling heatsink metal that sits under the shiny plastic, which is an odd design choice for a games console, which are usually very closed-in boxes that offer you little to no view of their inner machinery. It gives the machine a look comparable to high-end gaming PCs with those big clear side-panels that show off their powerful guts rather than then hide them away.

The new Xbox 360 250Gb redesign is slimmer, quieter, sleeker, has built in Wireless N, and has a 250GB hard drive. It is not a new console, and is not any spectacular leap for Xbox. This is simply a better Xbox 360. First off, the console looks great. It very sexy with glossy touch.

As with the old Xbox and all current-gen consoles, the slimmer Xbox 360 250Gb can be placed in either vertical or horizontal configurations. There are vents on both ends of the console, the underside of which will be restricted when placed vertically, but with grills covering a large proportion of the machine we can’t imagine there being any issues with heat in either configuration.

The power supply is much nicer than the bricks we’ve all had to hide behind our TVs for the past four years, its size sliced down to a fraction of the previous model’s, lighter and smoothly clipping into the back of the console with none of forced clunkiness of the original.

Flip the Xbox 360 250Gb around and on the back you see the usual selection of ports – USB, HDMI, power and the Xbox’s proprietary component video out. Optical support is now built in, and there’s the extra addition of a special port for the Kinect which will supply the device with its power, while old Xbox owners will need to plug Kinect into a wall outlet.

Slip a game disc in and close the tray and the device makes its first mechanical sound as the disc drive spins up. The sheer spin speed of that drive remains clearly audible as it was in the first console so it’s not an entirely silent experience, although we think that’s unavoidable.

With no disc in the tray, this Xbox 360 250Gb Elite console is absolutely silent – the single larger fan that replaces the multiple fans of the old noisy console clearly doing the trick in the decibel-trimming department. Where the old Xbox disc tray was slow to respond on opening and had that unnerving ‘ker-chunk’ sound as it came to a close, the new disc tray does its job quietly and smoothly, which adds to the more polished, finished feel of the new console.

Nintendo Dsi – Finally! Game System For Anytime, Anywhere Fun And More!

Sunday, July 4th, 2010

Nintendo Dsi

Nintendo targeted a wider demographic with the first Nintendo DS (2004) than it had with the Game Boy line. Just two years later, the Nintendo DS Lite debuted and was better than the original by far. Nintendo pioneered handheld entertainment in the ’80s and famously made it fully mobile and accessible to millions around the world. On November 1, 2008, the DSi was released in Japan, in matte black and matte white. April 2, 2009 release in Australia and New Zealand, and its April 3 release in Europe, featured these same colors. The third iteration of the world’s best-selling portable video game system. first DS console that launch multiple colors in North America.

The Nintendo DSi comes in a matte finish with a smooth texture. The touch screen measures 2.5 inches. f the touch screen gave Nintendo DS a sense of feel and the microphone allowed it to hear, the two cameras give Nintendo DSi the sense of sight. A rubber cover secures the port for the SD card. A slot for the DS games is in the same spot, as previous generations. Volume control is by a +/- switch, unlike the sliding volume switch of the DS phat. the WiFi radio is on notified by an LED indicator. Nice looking black matte finish. on screen menu is more user friendly than the other DS’s. You will definitely happier with the larger screens. The battery life may not be as long as the Lite, but DSi brightness settings are amazing. Default is on a setting of 4, which is brighter than the DS Phat.

The most obvious change to the Nintendo Dsi Console just from looking at it is the addition of a 3 megapixel camera. this device has two high-resolution digital cameras, one to take a picture of yourself and one to take a picture of just about everything else. Pictures taken with the DSi can be manipulated and edited via the touch screen, including combining multiple pictures, distorting images, or even slathering them with graffiti. taking pictures and being able to play with them makes for some simple fun.

Easy to set-up. It also comes with wireless internet access, and a DSi shoppe channel. The screen on the DSi is .25 inches bigger than the DS lite.

A SD card slot was added to store various things (has HCSD compatibility). you can still play your DS cards buying games from DSi shop. This is needed as the internal storage of the DSi is pretty slim.

the DSI is worth buying. When you count all the features that are rolled into one device, it’s a great value. f course with all these new features the price has been tacked up a wee bit. Certainly if you still have the original DS, it is worth investing in this newer update. In the end, this shouldn’t be seen as a simple hardware refresh like the GBA micro but a large scale expansion of the DS platform.

New Wii Games For You

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

Whether young or old, a child, teen or grandparent, almost everyone enjoys video games. During the holiday season, the best game may not be the newest one released. Though Mario Kart for the Wii console is not one of the new Wii games released this year, it is a must have for any family gathering. It doesn’t matter if it’s a party, a family celebration or a night in with the girls; the Mario Kart with Wheel for the Nintendo Wii is a game that is popular with everyone.

During game play, Mario is back with his friends, and they are ready to race in this Mario Kart with Wheel game. You can choose your own “kart” or bike, with each sporting different details such as speed, acceleration, weight, drift, handling, off-road mini turbo, rims, wheels and tires for each vehicle. There are also manual or automatic drift options, like in the movie “The Fast and the Furious.” Don’t be convinced that the new Wii games are better because this cars video game has something for everyone.

The various obstacles include eighteen-wheeled trucks and other karts. Another time killer is running off the track; if you do, your kart bogs down while everyone passes you by. Each of the circuits has three levels of difficulty; beginner, medium and expert. Although it is not one of the new Wii games, Mario Kart with Wheel is one of the best video games you can bring home for family fun.

Nintendo Wii Soft Chip Advice

Friday, February 12th, 2010

Want to get more out of your Wii with a modchip?- Then take some time to explore the functionality of the Wii soft chip. The Wii soft chip has a variety of benefits over the modchip while providing exactly the same functionality and rich features.

Although the Wii soft chip is only a small piece of code, it makes signifcant modifications to the Wii, disabling all digital rights management which means you can load any copied Wii/Gamecube game of your choice. As well as playing copied games, you can also do all of this with the Wii soft chip-

What Does The Wii Soft Chip Do

Play Backups

- The Wii soft chip disables the Nintendo Wii’s copy protection mechanism allowing you to load copied/backed up Wii & Gamecube games

Backup Games

- Create your own copys and backups of original Nintendo Wii games

Console Emulators

- Download an emulator for the Megadrive, N64 or SNES and play your favourite games on your Wii. You can download the entire library of games and forget all about the overpriced virtual console.

DVD Playback

- For some reason, Nintendo chose to disable the DVD player of the Wii. The Wii soft chip bypasses this and enables full support for DVD playback.

Media Center

- The outstanding media hub application will create a virtual library of all of your downloaded movies and TV series

You can do all of that and more with the Wii soft chip!

Why The Wii Soft Chip Dominates The Modchip

Every modchip suffers from the same disadvantages, and as such the Wii soft chip is the better choice everytime. The soft chip is better because-

  • It is less than half the price of a hardware modchip
  • It does not need professional installation or risky soldering procedure
  • It can be setup and installed by anyone
  • It does not void your warranty

Wii Soft Chip Buying Guide

As with modchips, there are various soft chips that you can buy. Although they all do the same thing and unlock your Nintendo Wii, they do vary in price, quality of product and customer service.

To work out which is the best one, I have taken the time to compare the Top Wii soft chip providers.

Xbox Stands Out Among Gaming Consoles

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

If there is one truth in the world of gaming, it is that every gamer has a preference in which console they use. If there was no opinion either way, the manufacturers would not put so much effort into the design, performance and marketing of their gaming systems. The three biggest rivals currently competing for the lion’s share of the gaming world are the Sony PS3, the Nintendo Wii and the Microsoft Xbox 360. The Xbox has a huge fan base claiming it’s the best: is this true?

The Playstation 3 fell victim to timing. The Xbox 360 already had time to build up a user base and then the PS 3 came out only to have to directly compete with the Wii. Sure, they say again and again that the Wii isn’t direct competition, but when all the news channels and magazines constantly chant how much the Wii is being accepted and flying off the shelves versus how the PS3 is overpriced and always in stock, well, it’s direct competition-if only for the spotlight.

The Wii, as cool as it is to many people out there, doesn’t have the same punch as the Xbox 360. Its graphics and processor are at least a generation behind the times and therefore can’t run things as well as the Xbox can. Nintendo never really made a secret out of this either, by the way. Nintendo sold the experience, and did a great job doing so. They never sold the Wii on the console’s (lack of) power.

Games designed in house by Nintendo make their platform stand out, so maybe it’s just the 3rd party designers who simply can’t figure out how to make the best of the Wii’s system. That really doesn’t matter from a consumer standpoint though. Whether Wii has untapped potential or not, the bottom line is that a lot of the best games just aren’t there.

The games that are available to the Xbox 360 are far more advanced from a graphic point of view than those available for the Wii. They can also be designed to be more in depth and faster moving because the Xbox platform is just so powerful. In fact, many third party game designers can’t or simply don’t bother trying to put certain games on the Wii because it just won’t do what they want.

Of course, the Sony Playstation’s second generation, the PSII, is still on the market. New games are coming out for it and new consoles are still being sold, for now. Seeing as it’s brushing against ten years old right now it really is the grandfather of the market. Still, the Xbox 360 can safely be called the old player because the PSII is not being actively marketed and isn’t the focus of anyone’s game plan; though, it has beaten the monthly sales of the PS3 now and then.

Tennis shoes, cars, computers and even soft drinks are all about marketing. There has to be something that sets it apart from the competitors. Microsoft took the game to a new playing field and charged up the competition. There will be other consoles in the future but until that time, in my opinion, the Xbox 360 is the way to go.

Want To Watch Movies On Your Nintendo DS? Now You Can. Once Your Buy And R4 DS Card.

Saturday, January 16th, 2010

Gaming is not for just the kids any longer.  With the popularity of video games as a form a entertainment, along side the evolution of the video games going from pixels and beeps to full blown immersive / challenging productions, more and more we find that gaming is for an older group of people.Even portable, hand held games and gaming systems like the NDS have hit the main stream. With a large number of challenging causual games and even in depth games for the hard core gamers, parents and their kids alike are playing on the go.

What isn’t easily available is a hand held game system that does more than just games.Something that packs the ability to play games and all of your other media with you, in your pocket seemed like an impossility just a few years ago.  With the introduction of third party add on accessories like the R4 DS Card, that too, has changed. While most game systems are great for just playing games, customers are simply not satisfied with just that any longer, wanting more and more out of their consoles. As game consoles like the Nintendo DS come packed with betters speeds, more power and screen resolution it was just a matter of time before 3rd party accesories took advantage of the abilities to use it for more than just games.

The R4 DS Card is an add on for your Nintendo DS or DSi that allows you to play not only your favorite games, homebrew applications and homebrew games, but it also allows you to turn your Nintendo DS into something so much more.  When you buy R4 DS Cards, you’ll be able to watch movies, listen to mp3 music, read ebooks and even take your digital photo collection with you.  What is even more amazing is that the R4 DS is no bigger, and looks no different than a regular Nintendo DS cartridge. The only difference between the R4 DS and a Nintendo DSi game is the addition on a microSD Card slot built into the R4 DS.  You can store and load all of your games and media, right from any microSD card with ease.

Setting up the R4 DS Card is also as easy as can be, and this is one of its biggest selling features over some of the other similar card on the market. The useage manual is included in the box to make it easy to set up and use.  It’s just a matter of dragging and dropping your media files from your computer over to the microSD Card.  The package even includes a USB microSD Card reader / writer, to make it even easier.  You just insert the microSD card into the reader, drag over your setup files (included on the CD) and then drag and drop your movies, games, or music and put the microSD card into the R4 DS microSD slot.

Once you’ve copied all of the media you want to use to your r4 ds card, you now just plug it into the Nintendo DS.  Here’s where the fun starts.  Instead of seeing your regular Nintendo DS system screen, you’ll be greeted with a menu system that is loaded instantly from the microSD card in your R4 DS.  The menu gives you all of the options that you could possibly need, including access to games and applications, media files such as movies, music or digital pictures, and finally, an eBook reader that enables you to take literally hundreds of eBooks with you on your Nintendo DS to read on the go.

Feel like your favorite TV Show?  No problem!  Just select the media icon in the R4 DS Card menu, and then select the movie file you want to play.  Your Nintendo DS will instantly turn into a portable video player.  Can’t get that new song out of your mind?Just put all of your favorite mp3 songs on your R4 DS Card and you can listen to your tunes between classes, on the way to work, and more.  And of course, playing your favorite games is just one click away.

With the R4 DS Card you get the full package. A truly portable movies, music and game player all in the palm of your hand.  The R4 DS Card is one of the most unique and amazing accessories for the Nintendo DS system, and one that no serious Nintendo DS owner should be without.  All you have to do now is just Buy R4 DS Cards for your Nintendo DS in order to be able to take advantage of these enhanced features and functions.

Goozex Review: Long Term User Review

Monday, December 28th, 2009

Where do gamers go?

The choices you have as a gamer are:

  1. Buy (Online, Ebay, used, Gamestop..)
  2. Rent (Gamefly, blockbuster…)
  3. Trade (Goozex, Switchplanet..)

Renting in the past at your brick and mortar rental place can easily set you back more then $5-$7 every week like Blockbuster. There have been other online rental game sites that charge a monthly fee like /month for one game out like Gamefly. Renting is a solution but you spend more time with games than movies. There is a considerable larger amount of time invested in videogames then in movies. Most movies range from 1.5 hours to epics of 6 hours. Where most videogames you could get a good feel for a game in 3 hours but most sports games and long role playing games could be played for more then 70 hours.

This is where Goozex Game Trading steps in. Goozex allows the gamer to keep the game as long as you want but have the option to sell it too. There is only a $1 transaction fee if you request a game on their network. So basically you can trade in your older games and build up Goozex credit until you get enough for a newer title and just pay the $1 transaction fee. All shipping costs are handled by the sender so if you are requesting a game you only pay the and not the shipping and handling. No membership fees so no need to feel you need to use the system. This is ideal in the sense that you could play the game until you are actually sick of it then send it in for credit. So you’re not rushed to get as many games played on the network because you can play at your own pace. Plus you OWN the game. At that point it is yours.

The network is peer to peer in that you can only request games and send games to other members. There is no single central warehouse and the pricing of the credits of the system are in points (100pts = $5). The pricing of the game is determined by market demand, release date, initial cost of the game, and a couple other factors. Most xbox 360 titles will go for 800-1000 pts which translates to $40-$50. This isn’t bad for a used game. Some money can be saved buying used but there is still tax and travel time/cost. Goozex gives you free shipping to you with no tax charge. You also have an option to buy credits if you want but I wouldn’t recommend that unless you have no games to send in or nothing of yours is being requested. The game prices will fluctuate and you will see the price change in your history. I’ve had a couple games I requested and I can see that price increase/decrease. It doesn’t happen that much but some games change +/- 200pts depending on market demand.

So why use Goozex instead of a used videogame store or an auction site with games like Ebay? You just need $1 to pay for the transaction fee. Most people don’t like to continually shell out more money for a game and then feel like the games they bought are depreciating at a very fast rate. Selling your game for cash anywhere will not give you that much. Selling it to a store they will mark your game up to make money. Selling online is tiresome. Goozex at least you get to trade in games you are done with and still get some value out of it as it will lead to other games you really want. There might be more difficulty in sending older sports titles as those don’t have much demand once their season is up like trying to sending in EA sports Madden 2005 will be a hard game to sell to someone on the network. Older games on ebay are a hassle to sell. You can build your own game list and no insertion fees.

Lots of integrated information like tips and reviews. I love being able to see the supply and demand of each game. This will let you know if you have a game people want or if you can possibly get a game on the network. Goozex determines who gets the game by matching up users. There is a waiting list that is generated and when you add a game you will see in what place you are waiting for that game. You get a good feel to when you will get a game. You need to make a list for want and haves for your games. They will show you your place in line per game. This is a good way to build up a wishlist and then have your core set of games your really want now. It is ideal to have a very large set of games you want now so you will have a very good chance of getting a game soon. I was requesting Crackdown for the Xbox 360 and I was 60th person in line. Turns out I got the game in less then 2 weeks. Just because you’re really deep in line doesn’t mean you won’t get the game soon. The system can deliver newer games in a short amount of time which is a huge bonus for gamers that want to play newer games but don’t want to buy them at the store. You have the option of trading just the game, the game with instructions, or the full package that includes case and instructions. Some people tend to not keep cases or instructions. The value of the game doesn’t go down as the credits don’t reflect what is included. This is because the user requesting the game can have the option to request only full packaged games, games with instructions, or just the game itself. I have not had a problem with getting full packages as I’ve gotten over 49 games and I’ve sent out 54 in under 2 years of being there.

Why NOT to use

For this site to be a perfect 5 star site I would like to see:

1. More users (will there ever be enough?)
2. More old school games (nes, snes, saturn….)
3. Sure isn’t free but man it’s 4 quarters. I’m a member of another site that has no transaction fees yet still protects the members.
4. Video game trailers for each game
5. More user interaction like user reviews and tournaments…)

All the above are small tweaks to the system that is already very functional. The main reason someone would NOT want to use this system is time and money. If you have the dough you would just buy it new down the street? Why wait? The main draw to the site is how much money you can save and the community there. If your not interested in connecting with other gamers and plan to play all your games alone then the only reason to use the system is money. If you wanted to save money but are impatient then this sits is NOT for you. I’ve experienced about 1-2 month turn around time for new games. Why? You are placed on a Que. The order of the Que determines when you get the new game, but more importantly is how many are available? Most people will play a new release for a certain amount of time before listing their games. The wait times do get long. Say you want a popular game that normally runs 40 hours to complete. You gotta factor in that a player like me would take over 1 month to beat a game like that. Seasonal games with many updates like Madden will hit the system quick but it’s also a bad thing. If you hold a game too long it will depreciate in value just like on the streets. Trading for early on might be for 1000 points but in a couple months with the market being saturated it could be 500 points in no time losing half of it’s value. Not Goozex’s fault but some games just don’t move well.

Current Goozex Simultaneous Transaction on the Network as of Mar 11, 2009 = 4793
