The choices you have as a gamer are:

Renting in the past at your brick and mortar rental place can easily set you back more then $5-$7 every week like Blockbuster. There have been other online rental game sites that charge a monthly fee like /month for one game out like Gamefly. Renting is a solution but you spend more time with games than movies. There is a considerable larger amount of time invested in videogames then in movies. Most movies range from 1.5 hours to epics of 6 hours. Where most videogames you could get a good feel for a game in 3 hours but most sports games and long role playing games could be played for more then 70 hours.

This is where Goozex Game Trading steps in. Goozex allows the gamer to keep the game as long as you want but have the option to sell it too. There is only a $1 transaction fee if you request a game on their network. So basically you can trade in your older games and build up Goozex credit until you get enough for a newer title and just pay the $1 transaction fee. All shipping costs are handled by the sender so if you are requesting a game you only pay the and not the shipping and handling. No membership fees so no need to feel you need to use the system. This is ideal in the sense that you could play the game until you are actually sick of it then send it in for credit. The network is peer to peer in that you can only request games and send games to other members. There is no single central warehouse and the pricing of the credits of the system are in points (100pts = $5). The pricing of the game is determined by market demand, release date, initial cost of the game, and a couple other factors. Most xbox 360 titles will go for 800-1000 pts which translates to $40-$50. This isn’t bad for a used game. Some money can be saved buying used but there is still tax and travel time/cost. Goozex gives you free shipping to you with no tax charge. You also have an option to buy credits if you want but I wouldn’t recommend that unless you have no games to send in or nothing of yours is being requested. The game prices will fluctuate and you will see the price change in your history. I’ve had a couple games I requested and I can see that price increase/decrease. It doesn’t happen that much but some games change +/- 200pts depending on market demand.

So why use Goozex instead of a used videogame store or an auction site with games like Ebay? You just need $1 to pay for the transaction fee. Most people don’t like to continually shell out more money for a game and then feel like the games they bought are depreciating at a very fast rate. Selling your game for cash anywhere will not give you that much. Selling it to a store they will mark your game up to make money. Selling online is tiresome. Goozex at least you get to trade in games you are done with and still get some value out of it as it will lead to other games you really want. There might be more difficulty in sending older sports titles as those don’t have much demand once their season is up like trying to sending in EA sports Madden 2005 will be a hard game to sell to someone on the network. Older games on ebay are a hassle to sell. You can build your own game list and no insertion fees.

Lots of integrated information like tips and reviews. I love being able to see the supply and demand of each game. This will let you know if you have a game people want or if you can possibly get a game on the network. Goozex determines who gets the game by matching up users. There is a waiting list that is generated and when you add a game you will see in what place you are waiting for that game. You get a good feel to when you will get a game. You need to make a list for want and haves for your games. They will show you your place in line per game. This is a good way to build up a wishlist and then have your core set of games your really want now. It is ideal to have a very large set of games you want now so you will have a very good chance of getting a game soon. I was requesting Crackdown for the Xbox 360 and I was 60th person in line. Turns out I got the game in less then 2 weeks. Just because you’re really deep in line doesn’t mean you won’t get the game soon. The system can deliver newer games in a short amount of time which is a huge bonus for gamers that want to play newer games but don’t want to buy them at the store. You have the option of trading just the game, the game with instructions, or the full package that includes case and instructions. Some people tend to not keep cases or instructions. The value of the game doesn’t go down as the credits don’t reflect what is included. This is because the user requesting the game can have the option to request only full packaged games, games with instructions, or just the game itself. I have not had a problem with getting full packages as I’ve gotten over 49 games and I’ve sent out 54 in under 2 years of being there.

Why NOT to use

For this site to be a perfect 5 star site I would like to see:

1. More users (will there ever be enough?)
2. More old school games (nes, snes, saturn….)
3. Sure isn’t free but man it’s 4 quarters. I’m a member of another site that has no transaction fees yet still protects the members.
4. Video game trailers for each game
5. More user interaction like user reviews and tournaments…)

All the above are small tweaks to the system that is already very functional. The main reason someone would NOT want to use this system is time and money. If you have the dough you would just buy it new down the street? Why wait? The main draw to the site is how much money you can save and the community there. If your not interested in connecting with other gamers and plan to play all your games alone then the only reason to use the system is money. If you wanted to save money but are impatient then this sits is NOT for you. I’ve experienced about 1-2 month turn around time for new games. Why? You are placed on a Que. The order of the Que determines when you get the new game, but more importantly is how many are available? Most people will play a new release for a certain amount of time before listing their games. The wait times do get long. Say you want a popular game that normally runs 40 hours to complete. You gotta factor in that a player like me would take over 1 month to beat a game like that. Seasonal games with many updates like Madden will hit the system quick but it’s also a bad thing. If you hold a game too long it will depreciate in value just like on the streets. Trading for early on might be for 1000 points but in a couple months with the market being saturated it could be 500 points in no time losing half of it’s value. Not Goozex’s fault but some games just don’t move well.

If you are like I am then you don’t spend much time playing video games. I actually kind of hate video games to be honest. Could there be any bigger waste of time than playing video games all day? I don’t think so. So then why am I writing about this video game? Because in my view The Beatles Rock Band Video Game is something well beyond just a video game, it is a real interactive musical experience.

I’m not really talking about the guitar part of the game. I actually think that part of Rock Band is lame because it has nothing to do with playing a real guitar and very little to do with the music. It has nothing to do with guitar because playing real guitar is about a thousand times harder than just pressing a few color coded buttons and it has little to do with the songs because I’ve noticed that the changes in the game rarely change at the same time as any chord changes in the song.

The drumming and the singing parts of the game are what I find really interesting and important. These parts of the game have a direct relationship to really doing these things “in real life” and the relationship to the music is also far more direct.

If you sing the song in tune and with the correct timing then you will get a good score. It’s true that you do not have to sing the real lyrics (you can just hum) but I don’t think that’s a big deal. Musically what is essential is the timing and hitting the right notes. I think The Beatles Rock Band Video Game is really an excellent to improve your ability to sing. This is even more true with The Beatles Rock Band than with other Rock Band games because it includes harmony singing too.

When you play the drums on the highest level you you have to hit every drum hit that is in the actual song! No, it’s not exactly like playing a real drum set, but it is close enough to be pretty effective for practicing. There have even been cases of people moving directly from Rock Band drums into playing a real drum set with barely a hitch in the transition.

I definitely recomend The Beatles Rock Band as a great present for any big Beatles fan along with (obviously) The Beatles Remastered Box Sets & The Beatles USB.

There are some quick and easy tips to follow. While some of these tips may seem obvious, it even took me about a week and a half of using the R4 DS before I came up with some ways to make my life (and game playing) a little bit easier.

1. Store your game and other files in a directory on your MicroSD memory card. Create a GAME folder and put all of your GAMES into this folder. You’ll have a much easier time when you are looking for games. It makes browsing to them in the menu much easier, and all your game save files will also be organized.

2. Try to orignize your MP3 files as well as Video files by creating a seperate directory for each one of them on the microSD memory card. This is something that is a must for anyone that has a lot of music where all of the songs are labeled TRACK 1, Track 2, etc..mp3, TRACK 2.mp3, etc… You’ll avoid conficts with file names by putting them all in on directory, and because you can name your sub-directory the name of the CD your ripped, you’ll at least know that TRACK-1.MP3 in the music directory is the album that you’re looking for.

3. Save a copy of your game save files on your hard drive once per week or more. Not because they could get corrupted on the microSD card in the R4 DS, but because you may want to go back to an earlier save point later in the game. Why should you backup and keep your current files in a folder on your PC? MicroSD cards are small, and as a result are also easily lost. You should always keep your games saves on your HDD as well as the card itself. While this one really seems like an obvious hint, you would be surprised to know that most of our technical support emails for the R4 DS deal with how to get back erased or deleted game saves that were not backed up. If you play games more often, you should definitely do this at least once per week or more often.

4. Try not to take out the R4 DS from the NDS each time you want to add files to the microSD Card. It’s easy to get the microSD card out of the R4 DS. Just push it with your finger and it should pop out. The spring mechanism will allow this to happen. You can then quickly put it into the included microSD Card reader / writer in order to change games and files or add music or video.

5. This is my final (and quite possibly the most obvious) tip. And it handles the Micro SD card in the R4DS card slot. When you put the NDS, Nintendo DS lite or Nintendo DSi in your pocket or pick it up. Do a double check on the microSD card in the R4DS slot 1 card. Make sure that the microSD card is in the card slot of the R4DS and it’s not loose or ready to pop out. It’s not often that the microSD card comes out accidentally but it can certainly happen. There would be nothing that could be more of a problem that not knowing where your microSD Card is. As you may know, microSD cards are very small, and if you lost one, you’ll have a really tough time finding it, unless you want to get a new one. I suggest always carrying your NDS in a case to make sure you do not lose your R4 DS card. A case makes it much less likely that you’re r4 ds card will get lost. Don’t turn your power on, until you have done this.

The r4 DS allows you to power up your NDS by allowing you to run homebrew game and applications as well as watch movies, read ebooks, and more. It also allows you to play MP3 music as well as watch movies on your Nintendo DS. In essence, it turns your Nintendo DS into a full fledge hand held multi media console, allowing you to play games, listen to music, watch movies, read e-books and much more. The 360’s main advantage is a huge online community called Xbox Live where many people all over the country pay for an online service that makes multiplayer gaming effortless and without faults. The Nintendo Wii does not have the same power as the Xbox or PS3 but does have significant advances hidden inside its tiny casing. The Wii is controlled by the moments you make holding the remote control. Playing games like tennis and bowling are excellent with the remote imitating all of your real life movements and making the character in the game do your exact same move. The Nintendo console has been seen as a much more accessible console with games aimed not at the hardcore shoot ‘em up crowd and more at casual gamers who want a simple game that is fun to play.

There are all sorts of crowds which each console appeals to with some people able to buy two or all three. The important thing to remember is that video games are meant to be a bit of fun and when choosing one to buy you should see which one suits your expectations best.

Imagine this : you are driving Mario’s fave go kart-style racer, and you’re lagging at second place on the last lap.  You’re increasing momentum, and the person in first position is in sight.  You know you are going to be able to overtake them on the following bend, as fast turn drifts are your fave moves.  The bend approaches,  you are right at their tail.  You increase the gas and reverse at the same time.  You spin the wheel and drift just past them.

This is the excitement that can be had in a multiplayer game of Mario Kart Wii.  You will not be competing with the computer AI.  You will be fighting against live people from varying parts of the world.  They are living, breathing, thinking players who will respond accordingly to the scenarios encountered by each round.  This makes every game tougher, and ultimately, more fulfilling.

Do you aspire to become a better Mario Kart Wii player?  These are some tips that may help you improve your skills:

– Perfect the ‘rocket start.’ This is a staple of each Mario Kart game. Effectively performing the rocket start will provide you with an early advantage in the round.  To pull off the rocket start, press the accelerator button as quickly as the timer counts down to 2.  You want to perfect your timing however, as being inaccurate for a mere millisecond will downplay the technique.

– Collisions are curses.  As much as possible, avoid colliding with other players as this will reduce your speed and it’ll waste time before you work up to your top once again.  Instead of racing side-by-side with another player, try to tail them, enabling you to know where they stand.  Then overtake your opponent once your boost power is ready.  By doing this, you will be way ahead of them and out of collision range when the boost fades.

– Either learn how to drift or find out how to let go of the gas button.  Most gamers are plain impatient.  They need to step on the acceleration at most times and run over each trap in a track, including walls on corners.  However, you won’t be ready to make most turns at top speed.  You will need to find out how to drift or let go of the accelerator command to slow you down a little, enough to pull off the sudden turns found in Mario Kart Wii.

Almost all gaming companies are doing it now. With the increase in popularity of the marketplace services that gaming consoles offer, more and more companies are adding downloadable content for their games. This content can be absolutely anything, Halo release new multiplayer maps whereas GTA release new campaigns.

GTA 4 is going to be the most recent because for the release of their next content pack, they are going to be all of their DLC onto a standalone disk. This means that you can play this new content without even owning GTA 4.

The only current downside to this is that companies only really do it once they have a number of packs to release onto disc, whether this will change in the future, we’ll just have to wait and see. Watch out for when video game news sites annonce a release date for the next GTA 4 game installment.

Normal 0 Activision has announced a great bit of video game news. As many of you know, Activision go pretty insane when it comes to releasing Guitar Hero games. However, these extravagant bundles never spread over to other games, until now.

Activision announced today that they will be releasing 3 different bundles for the upcoming Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 game. The 3 packages were announced by Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling who detailed them during a YouTube video.

The first bundle, the standard edition, is just a basic game and it’s really for gamers who just want to grab the game and play. For gamers that enjoy the special art books, there is the Hardened Edition.

The Call of Duty Hardened Edition is basically any other limited edition game. It comes with wrapped within a metal case and comes with an art book as well as a download code for the original Call of Duty game. Retailers are currently offering the game for $80.

The final bundle is just as insane as the Gears of War 2 special bundle which came with a life size lancer gun. The Prestige Edition contains everything from the Hardened Edition, as well as a bonus special item. The bonus item is is a pair of Call of Duty branded working night vision goggles, awesome.

Alongside your night vision goggles, you will also get a sculpted head so that you can display the goggles when you’re not using them.

Although this all sounds great, it comes at a price. If you really want your night vision goggles, it will cost you a whopping $150. This is certainly not cheap, no doubt Activision will make a lot of money out of it though.

So if you’re into gaming and are also in the market for a pair of night vision goggles, then the Prestige Edition is for you, however, if your not, I would still buy the Prestige Edition.

I’m sure not many gamers will be waiting for the game reviews to be released before they order their copy of the game. With a successful game like this, not many will need to read the video game reviews!
